The best thing about Dragon Age: Origins is basically the story and the moral choices you get to make. This isn't the old "good" or "evil" in Baldur's Gate or even Knights of the Old Republic. The choices here really make you think. Like there's this choice now that my dwarf has to make.
A bit more on the background of my dwarf, Gunter. Well like I said, he isn't exactly the most lawful and respectable member of society considering he's part of the dwarven casteless society. He lived his teens and early adult hood being a pickpocket, mugger and thug for the crime lord Behraht. Well spoiler alert.... his sister claims she has found a suitor. Well Gunter becomes a Grey Warden and leaves his dwarven homeland. Eventually, the blight of darkspawn (the evil) must be defended against so he has to go back to his home to ask the aid of the dwarves for help.
Well it turns out the last dwarven king has died. Politics and in-fighting have caused a high amount of tension in the dwarven city. You hear rumors that the prince, son of the former king, Behlen poisoned his father for the right to the throne. The other dwarf who is gunning for power is Lord Harramond who is somewhat a lenient lord.
So in order to secure the aid of the dwarves - there must be a king. So you as a grey warden can pick who you want to support. I sort of wanted to go for Lord Harramond thinking that maybe the caste system might be abolished through his rule or at least ignored. I decided to see how my sister was doing first - turns out the dude she got to marry was Prince Behlen. Uh oh. Do I go for family or for freedom?
Well this was a tough choice. I didn't like the rumors of Behlen but technically my character values his sister above all else. I decided to support the prince and see how it plays out....
